Using Cellulose Ether Instead of Carbomer to Make Hand Sanitizer Gel

Make hand sanitizer gel using cellulose ether (HPMC) to replace Carbomer

As the spread of the COVID-19 continues, people are appealed to wash their hands often, according to the survey, 47 percent said they were using hand sanitizers more frequently. In this way, the demand of hand sanitizers is growing. Like the melt-blown fabric as key material in making masks, the demand of Carbomer increase sharply, as the important additive for hand sanitizers.

While Carbomer is in short supply now, since the cellulose ether can work as thickening agent, we noticed that new formula for hand sanitizer (alcohol based) developed now. It shows as below:

No. Ingredient 成分 W/V %
1 Alcohol 95% denatured 70
2 Cellulose ether 1
3 Glycerin 98% 2.5
4 Propylene Glycol 2.5
5 Water 24
